The Perfect Playroom for Kids

If anything could make you want to be a kid again, it is the perfect playroom! With kids spending more time at home, it is more important than ever to have a place to enjoy themselves and express the creative, fun-loving part of their personalities. So how do you make the perfect playroom? All of the following ideas are optional. You can mix and match them to create a playroom that fits into your family’s lifestyle.

Choose a Theme

If you have one child, the theme could be something related to what the child loves—a favorite hobby or place. Maybe the playroom will look like the inside of a spaceship or a submarine on the ocean floor. If you have more than one child, it is important to choose something that all your kids enjoy. For example, you could make their playroom into a jungle safari or someplace in the Jurassic period, filled with dinosaurs.

Use The Awkward Nooks and Crannies Too!

Do you have a stairwell in the room with space underneath? It can be used as a private reading area or set up an AI speaker to play music. Take advantage of unique places in the playroom to make them special and memorable.

Use Walls in Interesting Ways

Murals are incredible, but so are walls covered with Lego baseplates so the kids can build on them-vertically! Another fun addition to a wall is a climbing wall. Or, use some chalkboard paint to create a wall they can write and draw on whenever they want.

Allow pieces of Furniture to Do Twice the Work

Turn the top of a bunk bed with a desk underneath into a fort. The fort is a great place to play during the day, and if friends come for a sleep-over, it’s an extra bed! The desk is excellent for studying or just solitary creative time.

Use benches and ottomans with storage space inside. Create a wall of shelves to hold books and toys. It not only looks great, but your kids will be able to quickly clean up at the end of the day and find whatever they want when it is time to play again.

Think Ahead

Kids grow so fast. Their playroom should grow with them. Every couple of years, you will want to repaint, using satin or glossy paint to make it easy to clean. The colors and design may change over the years. So will the theme of the room. It can be fun to get your kids’ input as they grow older.  They may even be able to help with some of the redecorating.

Have a Floor That Will Hold Up

Your playroom floor will have to take a beating. There will likely be spills and other accidents that happen during crafts and roughhousing. If your kid’s playroom has a concrete floor, you are halfway to the best floor a playroom can have. To get to the best, coat the concrete with a polyaspartic or polyurea coating by Concrete Coating of Minnesota. Polyaspartic and Polyurea concrete coatings are:

  • Scratch and impact-resistant
  • Chemical and stain-resistant.
  • Elastomeric quality means it is flexible instead of rock-hard
  • Highly moisture resistant.
  • Environmentally friendly.

This is a floor that will stand up to everything your kids can dish out! And there are numerous colors, patterns, and textures you can choose from, including:

Decorative Chip

Metallic

Quartz

Solid Colors

Clean & Seal
