Is Winter A Good Time To Coat My Garage Floor?
In Minnesota, we get used to doing everything seasonally, so you might wonder if getting your garage floor coated is something that will have to wait for the warmer months of the year. However, even in the cold month of winter, we can coat any of your concrete projects except those outside, exposed to the elements, like sidewalks, steps, patios, and driveways.
Epoxy Floor Coating Isn’t Always Appropriate Due to Weather Specifications
If you choose to have your garage floor coated with epoxy, the floor’s temperature is more important than the air. So, it doesn’t matter if you warm up the garage air when the floor is still too cold for epoxy. And the floor will usually be colder than the air, regardless of what you try to do to change it.
Epoxy isn’t appropriate when the temperature is less than five degrees over the dew point, or humidity levels are greater than 85%
How Can My Garage Floor Be Coated in the Winter?
Consider polyurea or polyaspartic coatings. Not only do they apply well in cold conditions, but they offer several advantages that will make you glad you chose them. They:
· Are 3-5 times harder than epoxy (2900 psi tensile strength).
· Form a strong bond to your concrete at 500+ psi, so there will be no chipping or peeling.
· Resist moisture and are UV stable. Therefore, your flooring will not degrade or fade in sunlight.
· Are available in countless stain and scratch-resistant colors and styles.
· Cure fast so you can use the area within 24-48 hours.
What About All My Stuff?
We know you keep more than just your car in your garage. It is often a storage space for off-season items, tools, and sporting equipment. What to do with all that stuff is a common concern for our customers. That’s why we work with a company that provides portable storage units that can be filled and then kept on site until the job is done and you are ready to repack your garage.
